Getting to Oporto
We will have our welcome dinner, and pick up our very important document – our Pilgrims Passport
Welcome to Oporto, take some time during the day to discover this fabulous city.
16 km / 9,9 mi walk from Obelisco da Memoria to Vila do Conde.
We will take a short transfer from Porto to the Obelisco da Memoria, a meaningful place for Portugal’s history. Our walk today takes us along the attractive beaches of the Atlantic coast, through wooden walkways over the dunes. After crossing the bridge over the Ave River we will enter Vila do Conde, whose historic center we cannot miss, and where we will spend the night today.
16 km / 9,9 mi Walk from Oia to Baiona.
If the previous day was beautiful, today’s will also be very attractive and varied: we will begin our journey along the coast, we will enjoy a beautiful stretch through the mountains with views of a lighthouse, and shortly after we will discover Baiona, a town that will make you fall in love, which will be your shelter for tonight.
14 km / 9 mi Walk from Vigo to Redondela.
After a short transfer from Baiona to Vigo, the departure from Vigo brings us a pleasant surprise, as the itinerary follows the Senda da Traída das Augas, with forests and panoramic views over the estuary. Upon entering Redondela, our Coastal Way joins the Central Portuguese Way, the great Jacobean route that comes from Lisbon, Porto and Tui, which we will follow over the next few days to Compostela.
16 km / 11,8 mi Walk from Redondela to Pontevedra.
Today’s walk is a mix between urban and amazing nature, with some really interesting stretches. Today we face two climbs of 120 and 135 meters in height, respectively; they are gradual and do not pose any difficulty, although the first one has some rather difficult slopes. We can reach Pontevedra, the provincial capital, by taking advantage of a beautiful river path. Tonight you can enjoy Pontevedra’s old town, enjoy its restaurants and little streets.
17 km / 10,5 mi Walk from A Escravitude into Santiago.
Today is the last stage of the Portuguese Way is largely urban areas with the beauty of approaching the city of Santiago de Compostela. As for the gradients, it is worth mentioning the moderate and progressive ascent to Agro dos Monteiros in O Milladoiro. In the cultural sphere, be ready for Santiago’s extraordinary cathedral, it’s breathtaking after such long days of walking.
